ANDREAS FREUDENBERG – Managing Director GMA

In 1986 the cultural manager and educationist Andreas Freudenberg developed the concept for the Documentation and Cultural Center of German Sinti and Roma in Heidelberg on behalf of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma. He was a scientific assisstant to the center for six years before taking on the position of general manager for the Werkstatt der Kulturen, an internationally exemplary institution dedicated to the advancement and presentation of cultural diversity in the immigrant city Berlin. In this capacity he initiated the “Carnival of Cultures“, one of Berlin's largest events, welcoming about 1.5 million visitors, as well as the nationwide global music contest “Creole“. From 2000 to 2008 he was a member of the „Council for the Arts“, a political initiative of self-advocacy of Berlin based cultural institutions.

WILLIAM RAMSAY – Artistic Director GMA

William Ramsay studied music in Johannesburg and Los Angeles, taught at the Federated Union of Black Arts in Johannesburg as well as at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. He was the founder and head of the worldmusic department at the Hochschujle für Musik Hanns Eisler from 1995 to 2005. He is also a prize winner of the Grimme-Award 1991, the Studio-Prize by the Berlin Senate 2004 and recipient of the Golden Kite 2004 in the category film score. From 1999 to 2000 he was the artistic director of the Berlin based worldmusic festival Konzertsommer and from 2005 to 2008 he was working as musical director, composer and consultant for André Heller's multimedia project Afrika!Afrika! Since 2008 he is responsible for the music program at the Berlin International Literature Festival.

DIETRICH WÖHRLIN – Program Director GMA

Dietrich Wöhrlin studied music and music education in Los Angeles, Berlin, Ghana and Costa Rica, specialzing in Latin and African music. He is giving lectures at universities, schools and music schools and hosting seminars on the subjects of stylistics, education/methodology/didactics and body percussion since 1997. He is a published author of the international standard work for music teachers, musicians, drummers and percussionists “Rhythm & Body Percussion“ and of other publications. He is a composer of musical pieces and etudes, used in university competitions, a much sought-after bandcoach and workshop instructor for teacher training seminars. He provides consultation to universities converting from a diploma to a bachelor's and master's degree by devising a respective syllabus.

GIZAW MESHESHA – Campus and Technical Management

While studying industral technology at the California State University San José, the Ethiopean native got involved with the organization Ethiopians for Peace and Development. He supported Ethiopian refugees in founding theatre and music groups in Kenya and Sudan and developed a resource-saving baking oven in cooperation with the Sudanese Department of Energy. 1995 he started developing the project Circus Ethiopia with socially disadvantaged children and adolescents in Addis Ababa subsequently touring for more then ten years. To this day he is working as producer, tour- and even tmanager for different cultural events, including Afrika!Afrika!

SEBASTIAN HOFMANN – Coordinator GMN, documentation GMI

Sebastian Hoffmann studied cultural science, specializing in music, cultural management and international policy. He is the founder and general manager of Flowfish Records, an independant music label, which expanded into a publishing company and a booking agency in 2008. Together with the Werkstatt der Kulturen he organized the finals of the national competition of Creole – Globale Musik aus Deutschland. Since June 2010 he took on the artistic management and organization of the Masala Weltbeat Festival in Hannover and works as project manager for the regional competition Creole – Globale Musik aus Niedersachsen und Bremen.
