In Search of the Nayika : An Abhinaya Intensive
Who is a nayika? What is nayika bhava? How do we enter the inner world of a character and bring poetry to life through dance? These are some of the questions we will ask together as we walk on this shared journey of exploration.
Through Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda, and in particular the celebrated Ashtapadi “Kuru Yadu Nandana”, we will delve deep into Radha’s emotional landscape. Rather than focusing solely on choreography, this immersive workshop invites dancers to investigate the nature of abhinaya itself. Together, we will reflect on the many dimensions of the nayika, seek our own understanding of nayika bhava.
Workshop led by acclaimed young dancer and choreographer Pritam Das, a prominent disciple of renowned guru Rama Vaidyanathan. Known for his technical precision, agile footwork, and expressive abhinaya, Pritam brings a distinctive theatrical sensitivity to the classical dance tradition of South India.
This is a journey of questioning, exploration, and embodied discovery.
