About the Workshop

Voice is unique for each one of us. Singing a song is a joyful experience one would always connect with oneself. The Bollywood voice workshop is aimed at all those who are interested in singing and performing the songs of their choice. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to get the support one needs for vocalizing and improving voice technique and the quality of sound production. 

Free up your voice with the master musician Manickam Yogeswaran, who was the first Tamil singer who reached Hollywood when he sang Jocelyn pook’s sound track for Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” track name: “Migration”(1999).

Participants will learn fundamentals in singing in the aspects of voice production, diction, phrasing of lyrics and voice projection. They will also learn specific exercises designed for voice movements for singing light classical music and cinema songs in particular. 

Workshop Schedule

  • Welcome and Introduction (20 mins)
    Gathering and introduction, introduction to the songs with demonstration of exercises.
  • Begin singing (40 mins)
    Group singing with hand gestures and introduction of rhythms. Breathing technique to discover and develop control. 
  • “Sing a song” (60 mins)
    An opportunity for individuals to sing the melodies of your liking, a line by line approach to bring the song to life with your unique voice. 
  • Create a song (60 mins )
    Create a song with spontaneous creativity on melody making. Participants are encouraged to create a song by writing a line or a poem and composing a melody for it. 
  • Sing and perform : (60 min) singing with technique of the voice and phrasing
    Bring the melody which rings in your mind, or the one you would learn with the group which you worked together employing variations to the mode and fine tuning the aspect of ornamentation.
  • Q and A (30 mins)
    Discussion time, questions and future prospects of the workshop, expressing feedback.
