A Journey Through Indian Music

Our Hindustani classical singing lessons cater to students at various stages of their musical journey, offering a structured approach to mastering this rich art form.

For beginners, the course introduces the essentials of Indian classical music, including Sargam, Paltas, and Laya. Students will start with foundational skills such as traditional chanting, Bhajans, and engaging songs, establishing a strong musical base and fostering a genuine interest in the genre.

Advancing to Level-I, students who have completed the beginner stage will deepen their understanding of notes and Taals, practicing complex rhythm patterns and learning various Taals like Teentaal and Ektaal. This level also focuses on language and pronunciation to enhance the delivery of chants, Bhajans, and Bandishs, and begins to explore basic ragas.

At the Advanced Level-II, committed students refine their skills further by tackling intricate notes and Taals, improving their Riyaaz techniques and theoretical knowledge. This level emphasizes advanced improvisation, voice culture, and the exploration of semi-classical forms such as Bhajans and Natyageet. Students will also receive an introduction to Tabla, rounding out their training and preparing them for sophisticated performances.

    Aparna Shenoy

    Passionate Hindustani Singing Teacher

    Aparna has been devoted to music since childhood. Her formal training began in the 7th grade and continued through her advanced studies in classical Indian music. Music served as a vital source of stress relief during her medical studies, where she also pursued a profession as a homeopathic doctor.

    Musical Journey and Training

    At the age of 13, she embarked on her musical journey with lessons in Goa under the guidance of Guru Rajesh Purkhe ji. She later studied in Pune with Dr. Revati Tai Kamat from the Jaipur Atroli gharana. Her training continued with Pt. Suryakant Gaikwad ji from the Kirana gharana, under whose mentorship she completed her studies (Sangeet Visharad) at the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Vidyalaya.

    Versatile Musical Skills

    She trained in semi-classical songs, Bhavgeet, Natyasangeet, and Bhajans, with Mrs. Archana Tai Khasnis. Her goal is to make learning music enjoyable and to assist students in their musical journeys. She is passionate about teaching music to as many people as possible, especially children, to help them manage life’s stresses.
