In our overtone and throat singing classes, you’ll explore the art of manipulating vocal overtones to create captivating melodies and timbres. We integrate gentle Western overtone techniques with the powerful methods of Central Asian throat singing, with no prior vocal skills required.

Our individual lessons cater to various interests, from enhancing rap and beatboxing with throat singing to experimental voice improvisation. In choir sessions, we delve into sound improvisations, traditional Central Asian melodies, overtone choir repertoire, and collaborations with instruments and music electronics. The focus is on the joy of creating sound together and refining individual techniques. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced musician, you’ll discover new dimensions of vocal expression and deepen your musical understanding.

    Gisbert Schürig is an accomplished Overtone & Throat Singing teacher with a rich musical background. He holds a degree in pedagogue from the university of Cologne, graduating with honors.

    Advanced Vocal Training

    Pursuing his passion for vocal techniques, Gisbert underwent advanced training in Overtone and Throat Singing under renowned masters such as Wolfgang Saus, Hoosoo, Michael Ormiston, and Marc van Tongeren. As a versatile musician, composer, and performer, Gisbert excels in diverse artistic realms. He has collaborated with various projects, including the dancefloor rock ensemble Blotch, captivating audiences with his compositions and performances. Gisbert’s musical prowess also extends to the theatrical realm, where he has composed for theater productions.

    CD Productions and Throat Singing Projects

    Gisbert has contributed to CD productions alongside esteemed vocalists like Velve and Yifat Cohen. He has also worked with throat singing luminaries Alien Voice. Together with Jennie Zimmermann, Gisbert forms the dynamic duo known as ‘Duo Phyla’, exploring innovative sonic landscapes.

    At the Global Music Academy, Gisbert offers individual and group lessons in throat singing.
