Mauricio, a versatile performer and instrument maker, specializes in Latin American wind instruments. His musical journey began in Colombia at a young age, leading him to perform internationally from the age of 12.
Global Performance Experience
Mauricio has graced prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including the London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, and Umea Jazz Festival. His performances span Europe and beyond, showcasing his talent on a global stage.
Innovative Expertise
Mauricio specializes in keyless wind instruments like the quena, sikus, and mohzeños. He has developed innovative techniques to play these instruments in all 12 keys and various scales, enhancing their versatility across different musical genres. He also incorporates vocal harmonies and an electroacoustic system to explore new sonic possibilities. As a recording artist, Mauricio has toured with his quintet and collaborated with notable musicians such as Heidi Heidelberg in the duo Witch ‘n’ Monk. He is also active in the post-jazz London scene, working with artists from Polar Bear and Acoustic Ladyland.
At the Global Music Academy, Mauricio offers lessons in wind instruments for all ages and music levels.
