Saxophone Lessons for All Ages and Skill Levels

Our saxophone lessons cater to students of all ages and skill levels, from total beginners to advanced players. Whether you’re an adult looking to rekindle a passion for music or a child starting your musical journey, our courses are designed to meet your needs.

For beginners, lessons start with foundational skills such as effective breathing and body control to produce sound. You’ll learn proper finger placement, basic scales, and simple melodies, all while developing the ability to express your musical personality through the instrument.

Intermediate players will delve into more complex techniques and repertoire. This includes refining tone quality, exploring various styles of music, and learning more intricate pieces. You’ll also work on sight-reading and improvisation to broaden your musical capabilities.

Advanced players will focus on advanced techniques aimed at enhancing their skills to achieve professional-level proficiency. This includes mastering the altissimo register, advanced articulation, and exploring contemporary and classical works. You’ll also have opportunities to work on performance skills, preparing you for solo and ensemble settings.

    William Ramsay

    Saxophonist and Composer

    William Ramsay is a saxophonist, composer, and the art director of the Global Music School, where he also serves as the pedagogical director of the Global Music Campus projects. He is responsible for developing and implementing the curriculum.

    Educational Background and Teaching Experience

    William studied at the California Institute of the Arts and has taught at the Federated Union of Black Arts in South Africa, the California Institute of the Arts, and directed the world music program at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. He has a special interest in the music of Africa and the African Diaspora and regularly conducts workshops on African, Afro-Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban music.

    Leadership Roles

    From 2008 to 2010, William served as the musical director of the International Literature Festival in Berlin. Since 2012, he has worked as a pedagogical advisor for the ‘Music Crossroads Academy’ under the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this role, he oversees a two-year professional teacher training program for African music in Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Ethiopia.
