Join us for a two-day introduction to the beautiful world of Javanese Gamelan.
Gamelan is a traditional Indonesian ensemble where every player has an important role. Together, the group creates rich and beautiful music through listening, cooperation, and rhythm.
The workshop will be conducted by Xin Wei, who plays, writes, and teaches Gamelan in Berlin and Hamburg. Xin Wei has trained in Surakarta (Solo), Central Java, via classes at the Institut Seni Indonesia, private lessons with prominent musicians, and immersion in the city’s vibrant musical life.
No previous experience is needed, just come along and enjoy making music together!
About Gamelan
Gamelan is a traditional music style from the island of Java, in today’s Indonesia. It is loved worldwide for the deep resonance of its bronze gongs, vibrant percussion, and the sense of community it fosters among its players. Children often play alongside adults in community ensembles, and many schools offer the music as extra-curricular activities.
