Ioanna Srinivasan is an internationally recognized dancer and choreographer dedicated to the classical North Indian dance form Kathak. With her extensive training and decades of stage experience, she seamlessly blends precise technique with storytelling depth and elegance. Her interpretations capture both the rhythmic complexity and emotional depth of this art form.
Comprehensive Training and Artistic Development
Ioanna began her Kathak training in early childhood and later deepened her studies under Pandit Vijai Shankar in Kolkata and Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj in New Delhi, India. She completed her Kathak diploma with distinction (Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh). In addition to classical Kathak, she further developed her artistry in Contemporary Kathak Dance, working across disciplines with Flamenco, Contemporary Dance, and Dance Theater.
International Stage Presence and Teaching Career
For over 30 years, Ioanna has been active as both a performer and a teacher. She has performed as a soloist at numerous international festivals, including the Binda Din Kathak Festival (India), Theater der Welt (Germany), and Lunalia Festival in Mechelen (Belgium), and has presented Kathak in radio and television broadcasts. Critics praise her elegant stage presence, exceptional rhythmic mastery, and nuanced expression.
Alongside her performances, Ioanna conducts workshops worldwide and teaches Kathak with great dedication. Her extensive experience in both performance and teaching allows her to make Kathak accessible to a wide range of audiences, helping them engage with and appreciate this rich and expressive art form.
